Baekrokdam Safety Guide · Symptom Response

When headaches, dizziness, lethargy, or difficulty eating occur while taking Gambijeong or Gambihwan

If you experience headaches, dizziness, or lethargy, do not simply dismiss them as a weight loss reaction or conclude in advance that they are caused by the medication. Record the actual medication taken, the time of administration, diet, hydration, sleep, changes in posture, and accompanying symptoms. Seek immediate evaluation for sudden neurological symptoms, fainting, or chest pain.

This page answers the following

  • Can I wait and see if the headache and dizziness are part of the adjustment process?
  • Is it a sign that the medicine is working well if I cannot eat due to a lack of appetite?
  • Do I need to check my blood pressure or blood glucose levels?
  • Can I continue taking the next dose of Gambijeong or Gambihwan as usual?

When prompt medical evaluation is required

Do not wait until your next consultation if you have these symptoms

  • Sudden onset of very severe headache, one-sided paralysis or sensory loss, slurred speech, vision changes, changes in consciousness, or seizures
  • Fainting, chest pain, severe shortness of breath, persistent irregular heartbeat, and severe dizziness
  • Repeated vomiting making it difficult to even keep water down, significantly decreased urination, difficulty standing up, or clouded consciousness
  • People using diabetes medication who experience cold sweats, tremors, or confusion that does not recover even with the previously guided methods

If your current symptoms are severe or worsening rapidly, please call 119 or visit the nearest emergency medical institution.

Inquiries during medication

Please notify Baekrokdam regarding Baekrok Gambi-jeong, and the original prescribing institution for any other prescriptions

If there are no emergency symptoms, please have your current medications, medication guides, and the time the symptoms started ready. For Baekrok Gambi-jeong, Korean medicine doctor Choi Yeon-seung will link it to your current prescription and guide you on the next steps; for prescriptions from other institutions, please notify the original prescribing institution first, as they know the actual composition.

Conclusion of this page

  • Sudden and very severe headaches, one-sided paralysis, slurred speech, vision changes, changes in consciousness, fainting, chest pain, or severe shortness of breath require immediate medical evaluation.

  • Along with the product and the time of the last dose, record actual food intake, water, sleep, caffeine, vomiting/diarrhea, changes in posture, and, if possible, blood pressure and blood glucose.

  • Even if your appetite has decreased, if you cannot maintain your intake of food and water, do not dismiss it as a weight loss effect; notify the original prescribing institution before the next dose.

Please check your current medications before reading

If you do not know the name, ingredients, and dosage of your medication, you may apply incorrect information even if it is categorized as 'weight loss medicine.' This page does not replace individual prescription changes or emergency medical care.

What should I check first if I experience headaches, dizziness, or lethargy?

Before or after taking diet herbal medicine, Gambijeong, or Gambihwan, you may experience headaches, dizziness, or a loss of energy. However, these same symptoms can be caused by lack of sleep, reduced food intake, dehydrationchanges in caffeine intake, blood pressure, blood sugar, infections, or other medications. Do not conclude the cause based solely on the name of the medicine, nor should you ignore these symptoms as simply part of the "weight loss process."

If you are taking Baekrok Gambijeong, please notify Baekrokdam based on your medication guide, actual dosage, and the time of your last dose. For Gambihwan or diet pills from other institutions, you must first identify the original prescribing institution and medication information; the dosage for Baekrok Gambijeong does not apply.

Do not wait or continue reading this document if you have these signals

Sudden and unusually severe headaches, weakness or loss of sensation in one arm or leg, slurred speech, vision changes, changes in consciousness, or seizures require immediate evaluation by 119 or an emergency medical institution. The same applies to fainting, chest pain, severe shortness of breath, persistent irregular heartbeat, and severe dizziness.

Do not wait for an online response if you cannot keep water down due to repeated vomiting, if urine output has significantly decreased and it is difficult to stand up, or if cold sweats, tremors, and confusion do not resolve while using diabetes medication. Do not drive yourself; bring the product packaging and a complete list of all medications you are taking.

First, identify which institution provided the product and what the product is

Gambijeong, Gambihwan, and diet pills are not standardized drug names. Check the prescribing institution, whether it is a tablet, pill, or herbal decoction, the dose per intake, daily frequency, start date, and the date of the most recent change. If the medicine is dispensed in small packets and the name is unknown, do not guess and take additional doses.

List any cold medicine, rhinitis medicine, painkillers, mental health medications, blood pressure medication, diabetes medication, other diet products, supplements, coffee, or energy drinks taken on the same day. The fact that several hours passed between doses does not rule out potential interactions.

For headaches, the speed of onset and accompanying symptoms are important

Note the location of the headache, whether it started suddenly or gradually, the intensity on a scale of 0 to 10, sensitivity to light or sound, and any neck stiffness, fever, vomiting, or vision changes. Whether it is the same as headaches you have experienced in the past is also an important point of comparison.

Review your schedule for days with lack of sleep, sudden increases or decreases in caffeine, or low water and food intake. Rather than continuing to add painkillers to mask the symptoms, first check if they can be used together with your current prescription.

For dizziness, replace the phrase "feeling dizzy" with specific sensations

Specify whether your vision goes dark when standing up from a sitting position, whether your surroundings feel like they are spinning, whether you have difficulty balancing, or whether you feel as if you might collapse. Note which posture triggers it and if it improves when lying down or sitting, pulseand blood pressureand if you can measure them, provide the values under the same conditions.

Do not assume safety based on a single normal reading. If symptoms recur or are severe enough to make walking, driving, or using stairs dangerous, notify the original prescribing institution on that day before the next dose and check if an in-person evaluation is necessary.

Even if your appetite decreases, you must report it if you cannot maintain your meals

While appetite control may be a treatment goal, it is different from a state where you can barely maintain daily food and fluid intake and experience a drop in energy. Record the actual food and amount eaten since yesterday, water intake, vomiting, diarrhea, amount of exercise, and the rate of weight change.

Repeatedly skipping meals or combining this with excessive exercise can lead to headaches, dizziness, tremors, and decreased concentration. Do not hide the fact that you cannot eat just because your weight has decreased; confirm during a medical evaluation whether the dosage intensity needs adjustment or if other causes need to be assessed.

If delayed menstruation, amenorrhea, or irregular bleeding occurred during the same period, Menstrual Change Guidecheck for the possibility of pregnancy, changes in intake and exercise, and other medications. If dizziness and heavy bleeding occur together, a prompt medical evaluation takes priority over online documentation.

Blood pressure and blood sugar have specific measurement targets and interpretation boundaries

If you have a blood pressure monitor, record your readings under the same conditions after sitting and resting; however, do not continue or stop medication based on a single number alone. Please report the difference from your usual blood pressure, as well as any pulsating sensations, chest pain, shortness of breath, or feelings of fainting.

Those taking diabetes medication should blood sugarcheck using the method provided by their medical staff. People without diabetes should not repeatedly consume sugary foods after concluding they have hypoglycemia based solely on dizziness, nor should they adjust diabetes medication arbitrarily.

Include changes in sleep and caffeine intake on the same timetable

Record the time you fell asleep the previous night, nighttime awakenings, total sleep duration, and the current day's Caffeine type, amount, and timing of caffeine. Headaches and fatigue can be affected not only on days you drink more coffee than usual but also on days you suddenly stop.

If a cycle repeats where you consume more caffeine and skip meals to endure insomnia, it becomes difficult to distinguish the cause of the symptoms. If insomnia, anxiety, or nervousness are the primary concerns, Sleep and Anxiety Guideplease review this as well.

These eight items are sufficient for a 24-hour record

On a single sheet, record the product and prescribing institution, actual dose taken, time of last dose, time of symptom onset/peak/improvement, meals/water, sleep, caffeine/other medications, and if possible, pulse/blood pressure/blood glucose. Rather than saying "I feel dizzy," it is more helpful for the medical evaluation to say "Took dose at 9 AM, skipped lunch, and experienced darkened vision for 20 seconds when standing up at 3 PM."

Even if symptoms disappear, please note if they recurred under the same conditions. If you have photos or measured values, send them along with the time.

Do not experiment with the next dose on your own

If symptoms recur after taking the medication or interfere with eating, work, or walking, notify the original prescribing institution for that day before taking an additional dose. Do not double the dose to make up for a missed one, nor increase the dose again simply because you felt better after taking less.

Baekrok Gambi-jeong may be taken in smaller amounts than the base dose during the initial adaptation period, but any changes must be based on your personal medication guide and medical evaluation. Increasing the dose beyond the base amount must be decided only after consultation and recommendation from the director.

Inquiry channels for Baekrok Gambi-jeong and other prescriptions differ

Those taking Baekrok Gambi-jeong can request a follow-up visit during treatment by sending the medication name, dosage, and symptom timetable via the Baekrokdam online questionnaire. Dr. Choi Yeon-seung will then determine the next step among continuing the medication, adjusting the time/dosage, pausing treatment, conducting an in-person visit, or evaluating other conditions.

For Gambi-jeong or Gambi-hwan from other institutions, the original prescribing institution knows the composition and medication instructions. Baekrokdam does not adjust the dosage of prescriptions it cannot identify. However, if you have emergency symptoms, seek medical help immediately regardless of which institution prescribed the medication, without waiting for a response from the prescribing institution.

Medical evaluations look at daily functioning as well as weight

During follow-up visits while taking medication, we check not only weight and appetite but also actual food intake, water, sleep, bowel movements, exercise performance, and whether standing, walking, and driving are possible. We also examine whether symptoms were pre-existing or changed after taking the medication, and if they overlapped with other medications.

If recovery of physical condition or disease evaluation is the priority, the weight loss prescription may be switched to in-person visits/tests, customized treatment, or a discontinuation plan instead of continuing. Being in a state where you can eat and move safely takes priority over the speed of weight loss.

7-DAY FOLLOW-UP

Record these six things together rather than just a single weight number

Do not arbitrarily increase the dose when progress is slow or there is discomfort. If you leave the following records in the Baekrokdam online questionnaire, they can be reviewed in connection with your current prescription.

  1. Actual dosage and time

Write the actual number of tablets and the times taken over the past 7 days, not the guided amount.

  2. Appetite and food intake

Record the times when hunger is strongest, the frequency of late-night snacks or treats, and changes in meal portions.

  3. Weekly weight trend

Look at the 7-day trend measured under the same conditions rather than a single day's value.

  4. Sleep, bowel movements, and discomfort

Please record the time you fell asleep, and the start time of any constipation, diarrhea, throbbing, hand tremors, or stomach discomfort.

  5. Items taken together

Please list the names and times of any prescription drugs, over-the-counter medications, supplements, other diet-related Korean herbal medicines, or caffeine.

  6. Reason for requesting adjustment

Please specify whether you wish to change the dosage or timing due to the rate of weight loss, discomfort, or changes in your schedule.

Verification of Evidence

What the evidence says and what it cannot say

Official Ephedra safety information reports dizziness, headache, insomnia, and anxiety, as well as serious cardiovascular and neurological risks.

Meaning in My Situation
After a prescription containing Ephedra, do not interpret headaches or dizziness as simple signs of weight loss; you must check for accompanying symptoms and combined stimulants.
Limitations of Interpretation
Data on overseas Ephedra supplements does not represent the incidence rate of prescriptions by Korean medicine doctors or Baekrok Gambi-jeong, nor does it establish individual causality.
Ephedra: Usefulness and Safety ↗

Guidance for dehydrated patients treats dizziness, decreased urination, fatigue, and confusion as signals necessary for evaluating hydration status.

Meaning in My Situation
If vomiting, diarrhea, or decreased intake occur together, do not focus only on the headache; you must also record whether hydration is maintained, as well as urine output and changes in posture.
Limitations of Interpretation
The degree of dehydration or the need for IV fluids cannot be determined through online guidance alone, and general drinking advice cannot be applied as-is for those with diseases requiring fluid restriction.
Dehydration ↗

Guidance for hypoglycemia explains the need to check symptoms such as tremors, cold sweats, dizziness, and confusion, along with diabetes medication and meal status.

Meaning in My Situation
For individuals using diabetes medication or those who have significantly reduced their food intake, blood glucose management guidelines and measured values previously received are important for medical evaluation if dizziness occurs.
Limitations of Interpretation
Hypoglycemia cannot be diagnosed by symptoms alone, and this does not mean that people without diabetes should arbitrarily consume sugar repeatedly.

During medical evaluation

How will this information be verified during a medical evaluation?

Individual prescriptions cannot be determined by public guides alone. During a medical evaluation, the name and dosage of medications being taken, medical history, and current symptoms are verified together.

Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Is it a side effect if I have a headache after taking Gambi-jeong?

It may be a change related to the medication, but lack of sleep, dehydration, changes in caffeine intake, blood pressure, blood glucose, or other medical conditions can also cause the same symptoms. Record the start time and accompanying symptoms; if you experience a sudden, very severe headache or neurological symptoms, seek medical evaluation immediately.

I feel dizzy when standing up after taking Gambi-hwan; is this okay?

Ingredients cannot be identified by the name Gambi-hwan alone. Please confirm the actual medication and dosage taken, as well as food/fluid intake, vomiting/diarrhea, and use of blood pressure medication. If this recurs or you feel as if you might faint, notify the original prescribing institution on the same day before the next dose.

Is it part of the medication's effect if I have so little appetite that I can hardly eat?

The inability to maintain food and fluid intake should not be dismissed as a weight loss result. Record your actual intake and changes in urination and energy levels, and notify the prescribing institution before the next dose to check the necessity of adjusting the dosage, timing, or other medical evaluations.

Should I consume sugar if I feel dizzy?

Hypoglycemia cannot be confirmed by symptoms alone. If you use diabetes medication, follow the blood glucose measurement and response guidelines provided by your medical staff. If there is confusion, decreased consciousness, or if you do not recover, seek help immediately.

Can I continue taking Gambi-jeong while taking headache medication?

This depends on the type of pain reliever and existing medical conditions, so please send photos of the front and back of the product and the time of the last dose to confirm concurrent use first. Do not mask recurring headaches with pain relievers alone or arbitrarily change the dosage of Gambi-jeong.

If I feel lethargic after taking diet hwan from another Korean medicine clinic, will Baekrokdam determine the dosage for me?

Dosage cannot be determined without knowing the ingredients, content, and medical information of a prescription from another institution. First, check for emergency symptoms and provide the medication name, intake history, and symptom records to the original prescribing institution. Consultations for new treatment will be conducted separately after evaluating current symptoms.
